Goal : The overall goal is the development of productive and sustainable agropastoral systems that conserve the resource base and support rural livelihoods in the dry areas of the WANA region.
Purpose : The immediate objective is to provide technical, policy and institutional options that empower local communities and promote sustainable livelihoods and production systems and the conservation of agropastoral resources. |

Approach : The programme will be scaled out to cover a wider geographic area and a larger number of communities. It could cover a governorate or district according to the system followed in each country. This will provide a more comprehensive approach that allows for the integration and interaction of institutions, policies and best options and provide a realistic base for larger potential investment programmes by donors. The programme will continue to take a regional approach working through the multidisciplinary teams that have been implementing the Mashreq / Maghreb project. However, not all activities will be implemented in all countries. Implementation of the various elements of the programme will be determined by the comparative advantages of each country and team, with the regional structure of the project facilitating the exchange of information and transfer of proven options between the eight countries. |
